Rolls Royce Wraith Black Badge
The Rolls Royce Wraith Black Badge is a luxury car in every sense. Can Rolls Royce make this 2 1/2 ton hunk of english steel into a performance car?
A Little History
The original Wraith came out in 1938. It had a small 4257 cc straight six engine. For those of you that cant do cc to hp conversions, it produced around 30hp. That means this car is slower than the dreaded Prius and the deathtrap that is Reliant Robin. This car is from 1938, when only the rich could afford cars, so yes buy modern standards this car is as high tech as a couch, but in 1938 this car was one of if not the most high tech cars of its time.
Al Gore definitely would not like this car as it has a glorious 6.6 liter V12 engine. Roll Royce is one of the few car manufactures that still use V12's. Rolls Royce has been fighting Britains politician's who want everybody to drive a Prius. A quote from the Rolls Royce PR department states "We will not stop our production of the V12 for our luxury cars under circumstances". Rolls Royce only uses V12's because of there smoothness. V8's and V6's don't have the smoothness of a that a Rolls Royce needs.
Its 6.6 liter V12 produces 624hp and 642 lb ft of torque. That glorious engine shoots the Wraith to 60mph in 4.3 seconds. It will keep dragging its 2 1/2 tons till it hits its limiter of 155mph.
Did They Achieve There Goal?
Yes, they converted a 2 1/2 ton luxury car to a sport coupe. This car is not to throw around on a back road, but they managed to get sports car performance from a land barge. This car still has a massive amount of body roll and understeer, but it can do a burnout. You do not buy a Rolls Royce expecting it to replace your Ferrari. This car is a great daily driver for the people who already have 8 Ferraris and 9 Lamborghini's.
